No accusation, put forward by Iran against Azerbaijan, has any foundation. This was the message sent out today by an Azerbaijan member of parliament.
"I believe that Azerbaijan will rapidly send a very precise and persuasive letter in answer to these questions," the MP from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Aydin Mirzazade told Trend today.
"It seems that someone in Iran is now interested in spoiling relations and creating a hostile attitude to Azerbaijan," he said. "Azerbaijan has never interfered in the internal affairs of other countries. Our country has always respected Iran's independence and the right to solve its problems."
Blaming Azerbaijan by unverified, biased information does not correspond to good relations between the two neighbouring countries, he said.
"I must stress that the Iranian side must not have voiced this information and this accusation. It must prove it to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan will respond to it, but it is impossible to understand on what grounds Iran accuses Azerbaijan and on what grounds it casts a shadow on relations with Azerbaijan."
Regarding another issue, Mr Mirzazade said that the Azerbaijani customs system has always adhered to the highest level of international legal norms in respect of foreigners entering the country and goods transported from foreign countries.
"On the contrary, we often meet with disrespect for Azerbaijani citizens and goods, the circumlocution on the Iranian border and Iranian customs," he said. "We have repeatedly informed the Iranian side about this. Apparently, certain political circles in Iran have found it necessary to spoil relations with Azerbaijan, or raise their image in the country now. From this point of view, they decided to take this step which does not meet friendly and fraternal relations. I think that this is not the result of good intentions of the Iranian side against Azerbaijan."
